Garett Macdonald, MBA, P.Eng
Position: President, CEO and Director
Mr. Macdonald has over 22 years of industry experience as a mining engineer including an extensive background in project development and mine operations. He has been involved with several public companies at both management and board level and has managed large technical programs through concept, feasibility and into construction. After roles in mine operations and engineering with senior Canadian mining firms Teck, Placer Dome and Suncor Energy, Mr. Macdonald served as the Vice President of Operations for Rainy River Resources prior to the acquisition of Rainy River by New Gold Inc. in 2013. Most recently Mr. Macdonald has served as Vice President of Project Development for JDS Energy & Mining, a leading engineering, construction and private mining firm, where he led that company’s Eastern Canadian business operations. Mr. Macdonald holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Western University’s Ivey Business School and a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) from Laurentian University. Mr. Macdonald’s appointment is subject to the approval of the TSX Venture Exchange.
Mark Vanry, MBA
Mr. Vanry spent five years as Managing Director and Head of Equity Sales for Canaccord Adams UK. During his tenure, Canaccord Adams became the number one investment dealer for distribution of Canadian equity and equity-linked products to European investors. Prior to that, he was Vice President of US Equity Sales for Raymond James Ltd., also based in London and an Associate in Scotiabank's Latin American division in San Juan, PR. Mr. Vanry is co-founder and current partner of Vanry Capital based in Vancouver, BC.
He holds an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario and a BA from the University of British Columbia.
Richard Wyman, BSc, MBA
Mr. Wyman began his career as a reservoir engineer with Esso Resources Canada Ltd. in Calgary before becoming a corporate finance associate with Wood Gundy in London. Mr. Wyman returned to Canada to work as an analyst in the corporate finance and treasury department of Gulf Canada Limited in Calgary and Toronto and later became an oil and gas equities research analyst with Peters & Co. Ltd. in Calgary. Following his tenure at Peters & Co., Mr. Wyman became a founding shareholder and director of Smart Pipeline Services Ltd. and Northern Cross (Yukon) Ltd. in Calgary. He returned to a capital market role as a vice-president and senior oil and gas analyst with Canaccord Genuity as part of Canaccord's rebranding process in 2004. He has recently returned to work directly in the oil and gas industry as an officer and director of Northern Cross, an emerging junior oil and gas company focused on exploring for and developing petroleum and natural gas resources in the Yukon.
Mr. Wyman received a bachelor of applied science degree in chemical engineering (honours) from Queen's University in Kingston in 1978 and an MBA from the International Management Institute, University of Geneva, in 1985.
Mr. Shields was engaged in the practice of law from 1979 through 2006 in Calgary and Vancouver, specializing in corporate and securities law and mergers and acquisitions. In 2006 he left the law business and joined Providia, a group engaged in public company start-ups. Mr. Shields was a founding shareholder of Ryland Oil Corporation, and served as its President and a member of the Board from 2007 until its sale to Crescent Point Energy in 2010. Mr. Shields was also a founding shareholder of Rainy River Resources Ltd., a TSX listed gold exploration company. He was elected to the Board of Directors of Rainy River in 2008 and was engaged as Vice President in 2009. He was subsequently appointed General Counsel and Corporate Secretary in 2011, positions he held until the sale of Rainy River to New Gold Inc. in 2013.
Mr. Shields holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Western Ontario.
Stuart Averill, B.Sc. (Hons.), P.Geo.
Mr. Averill is Chairman of Overburden Drilling Management Limited (ODM), a company that he founded in 1974 to develop and apply indicator mineral methods for mineral exploration. He has progressively advanced this novel technology and is now recognized as its pioneer and leading authority. Mr. Averill's specialty is early-stage exploration projects in frontier areas but he has also performed many detailed investigations, including demonstrating that Bre-X's drill core samples had been salted with placer gold grains. He has played a leading role in the discovery of several mineral deposits and new mineral districts in Canada including the very productive Casa Berardi and Rainy River gold districts. He is a former director of Nuinsco Resources Limited and was a director of Rainy River Resources Ltd. from 2005 until the company was acquired by New Gold Inc. in 2013 for $310 million.
Mr. Averill holds a BSc. (Hons.) in geology from the University of Manitoba. He has published several influential papers on indicator minerals and was presented with the PDAC's Distinguished Service Award in 2003.
Position: Interim CFO
Ms. Burianyk has over 15 years of industry experience serving as CFO for various TSX-V and CSE listed companies . Ms. Burianyk is a CPA, CA and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Simon Fraser University. Ms. Burianyk was previously employed as an audit manager at a Canadian accounting firm where she specialized in the mining industry.
Position: Corporate Secretary
Mrs. Hodges is the principal of Benchmark Governance, providing corporate compliance, administration and governance support to private and public companies in the resource and technology sectors. Mrs. Hodges has over fourteen years’ of experience serving on and for, numerous boards of directors of publicly listed companies. Mrs. Hodges specializes in corporate, commercial and securities law, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions.
